Welcome to the IOM NANoREG Website
The NANoREG (Regulatory testing of Nanomaterials) project is a large-scale international and interdisciplinary project which is part-funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework program, with contributing funding from national authorities.
This website was set up to help enable the study into
exposure scenarios.

The NANoREG Project ended on 28 February 2017 and this site is no longer
updated. The NANoREG project was coordinated by Tom van Teunenbroek at the Dutch Ministry for Infrastructure and the Environment
and had over 60 partners from across Europe.
Within the UK, the Department for Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) provided national funding for UK-based partners' contribution to NANoREG.
Based on questions and requirements supplied by regulators and legislators, NANoREG aims to:
- provide answers and solutions from existing data, complemented with new knowledge
- provide a tool box of relevant instruments for risk assessment, characterisation, toxicity testing and
exposure measurements of manufactured nano materials (MNMs)
- develop, for the long term, new testing strategies adapted to innovation requirements
- establish a close collaboration among authorities, industry and science leading to efficient and practically applicable
risk management approaches for MNMs and products containing MNMs.
The interdisciplinary approach involving the three main stakeholders (Regulation, Industry and Science) will significantly contribute to reducing the risks from MNMs in industrial and consumer products.
The IOM is co-leader of Work Package 3 (Exposure through life cycle analysis), and also contributes to Work Package 1, Scientific answers to regulatory questions, and to Work Package 7, Liaison, dissemination, exploitation, and communication of the project.
